Obituary of Charles Kakritz

Elmira: Age 82, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Charlie was born February 8, 1932, in Elmira, the son of Frederick and Frieda (Matthew) Kakritz. He is predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Spoore, Bernice Weston and Florence Kirkpatrick. Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Josephine Vecchio Kakritz, sister Ann Briggs of Horseheads, sister-in-law Angela Dambroso of Dewitt NY, several nieces, nephews and cousins, spiritual son Father Matthew Newcomb of Somers NY, extended family, Jeffrey Sherman of Columbus OH, Justin Sherman of the U S Coast Guard Academy, Reverend Lubomir Zebak, with his wife Natayla and their two sons, of Youngstown OH, "grandson" James Walsh of Baldwinsville NY. Charlie worked at Fletcher's Piano and Organ for over 30 years. He also was the owner of Midtown Music for 10 years. Active in the community Charlie was a member of the Elmira Little Theater and the Elmira Rotary Club where he was a past Secretary and also a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow. He also could be found volunteering at Woodbrook, the American Cancer Society and The Clemens Center. Charlie was a long time communicant of St. Cecelia's Church. Upon its closing he became a communicant of St. Mary's, Elmira. Services will take place at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira on Thursday, July 24, 2014. There will be one hour of calling, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will then take place at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Charlie with a donation to the Dominican Monastery, 1310 W. Church Street, Elmira NY 14905. Charlie's family extends their gratitude to the entire staff of the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the wonderful care provided to him during his stay there.
