Elmira: Age 85, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. Bernice was born on July 17, 1928 in Morris Run PA the daughter of George and Frances Bombaski. She was predeceased by her son Richard "Rick" Canali, brothers, Stanley and Edward Bombaski. Bernice is survived by her husband of 61 years, Louis A. Canali; daughter and son-in-law, Georgeen C. and Salvatore Madonna, Penfield NY; daughter-in-law Mary E. Canali, Horseheads; granddaughter Teri A. Madonna, New York City; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Thomas and Jane Canali, Sebring FL; several nieces and nephews. Bernice and her husband Lou were the second of three generations of Canali's to operate The Palms. Lou's parents started The Palms in the mid 1940's and Rick Canali, with his wife Mary, took over after Bernice and Lou retired in 1995. Bernice had the perfect personality for the restaurant business. She enjoyed the interaction with her customers, as they did with her. The most important things to Bernice were her family and her home. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Donations in memory of Bernice may be made to Care First, 11751 E.
