Obituary of Mary Helen Yunis

Elmira: Age 86, passed away, unexpectedly, in Elmira, on the morning of March 17, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Yunis was born on July 2, 1927, in Elmira, the daughter of Thomas J. Maxcy and Fanny Bowne Maxcy. She graduated from Harcum College and worked for McLane Construction Company before marrying Tuffee Yunis on June 17, 1961, and starting their family. Later in her life she was an integral part of Yunis Realty. Mrs. Yunis is survived by her brother, Thomas J. Maxcy, Jr. (Doris), of Bella Vista, son John T. Yunis, of New York City, daughters, Mary Jo Yunis (Marty Taylor), of Ithaca, Helen Ann Yunis, of Ithaca, Barbara J. Yunis (Jeffrey Streeter), of Elmira, Amy K. Yunis (Karin Martin), of Berkeley, grandchildren, Maxcy Streeter and Baxter Streeter, of Elmira, and Maria Colucci Yunis, of Ithaca; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary Helen was an avid bridge player and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Her insightful humor and ready laugh and smile will be sorely missed. She added an irreplaceable warmth to many lives. There will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Church, Elmira.
