Obituary of Edward LeRoy Baldwin

Elmira: Age 79, passed away at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, February 6, 2014. Ed was born February 3, 1935, in Elmira, the son of Guy and Lena (Wood) Baldwin. He is predeceased by his son Edward "Skip" Baldwin, grandson Gregory Klub, sisters, Ruth Decker, Mildred Utter, Frances Richards, brothers, Mitchell and Mahlon Baldwin. Ed is survived by his wife Verna Peterson Baldwin, with whom he would have celebrated 60 years of marriage in September; children, with their spouses, Dennis J. and Joann Baldwin, Bald Knob AR, Jeffrey E. and Betty Baldwin, Puyallup WA, Tammi L. and David Loper, Erin; daughter-in-law Linda Baldwin Vincent, Beebe AR; grandchildren, Brian and Jeremy Baldwin, Amy Stiles and Jamie Baldwin, Melissa Brainard, Matthew and McKenzie Baldwin, Abigail and Alexander Loper; great-grandchildren, Dakota Blood, Adrian Baldwin, Kendall Klub, Jason Baldwin; brothers and sister-in-law, Water Baldwin, Bernard and Sandy Baldwin; sister Betty Jane Baldwin; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marjorie and Arthur VanAlstine, Judy and Richard Hurley, Irene Peterson with Molly McClintock, Barbara Peterson, Marlene Peterson; numerous nieces and nephews; faithful canine companion Ko-Jac. Ed worked at Kennedy Valve for many years before transferring to Arkansas to work for ITT Grinnell. He returned to Elmira and went to work for Trayer Products from where he retired. Ed enjoyed hunting, he was a coin collector, and an avid New York Mets fan. But his passion was bowling…..his family often thought that he retired to become a professional substitute bowler. Ed was very proud of rolling a 300 game. As his sons were growing up, Ed coached baseball at the Mark Twain Little League. He was his grandchildrens number one fan at their sporting events. Ed was an active volunteer with the New Beginnings United Methodist Church Food Pantry. Friends are invited to the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church Reception Hall, 1238 Pennsylvania Avenue, Pine City, on Monday, February 10, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the church at the conclusion of calling hours with Pastor Bill Vallet officiating. In lieu of flowers, those wishing, may remember Ed with a donation to the Youth Bowling League at Dixie Lanes, 1154 Broadway, Elmira NY 14904.
