John F. Titus "Jack" Age 86, of Elmira, died at his home on Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Jack was born October 2, 1923, son of the late Paul E. and Anna (Kelly) Titus. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by his wife Ruth Talasleian Titus, step-father Francis Tobin, sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Paul Kane, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Jean Titus, brother-in-law Robert Jung. Jack is survived by his children, with their spouses, Paul and Jeanette Titus of Elmira, Joan and Michael Welch of Baldwinsville, NY, Mark and Colleen Titus of Horseheads, Debora and PJ White of Elmira; grandchildren, Jason (Stacy) Titus, Martin Titus, Jessica, Meghan, and Christopher Welch, Ryan and Shannon Titus, Kelly and Colin White. Also surviving are sisters and brother-in-law, Mary and John Schmidt of Elmira Heights, Jean Jung of Cincinnati, OH; sister-in-law Virginia Foster of Delaware; dear friend Frances Kowilich of Horseheads; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Jack was a proud Marine Corps veteran serving in the South Pacific during WWII. He was a Drill Instructor at Parris Island, SC during the Korean War, having some local enlistees in his boot camps. Jack's involvement with the military did not end when he was honorably discharged. Upon his return to Elmira he was active in many veterans organizations. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #901, Catholic War Vets Post #1178, member of the American Legion Post #443, and the Marine Corps League, E. J. Brewer Detachment where he was a Past Commandant. Jack was also a member of the Msgr. John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians and a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church. He was one of the founding fathers, and Past President, of the Notre Dame High School Athletic Association. He also served as the public address announcer at Notre Dame football games for 15 years. Jack had a life long career in electronic sales and service. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and photography. Jack also enjoyed following his grandchildren's sporting events. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Military honors will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Jack with a donation to the Marine Corps League, E.J. Brewer Detachment, P O Box 236, Horseheads, NY 14845. "SEMPER FI" Officers and members of the AOH will meet at McInerny Funeral Home on Friday, February 12th at 5:45 p.m. to conduct a service for our brother Jack. Signed, Tom Corcoran President
