Obituary of Helen B. Spirawk

Age 100, passed away at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center on Thursday, June 5, 2025.  Helen was born in Elmira, daughter of Theodore and Nellie Gulka Bathluk.  She was predeceased by her husband William Spirawk; brothers and sister-in-law Stephen, and Michael and Marie Bathluk.  Helen is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Mark and Sherry Spirawk of Elmira; daughter Linda Spirawk of Elmira; granddaughters, Erica Abbe of Eugene OR, Kimberly Maloney of Elmira Heights, and Andrea (Scott) Larrabee of Elmira; great grandchildren, Xander Burch, Kayla Rossi and Sophia Abbe; and niece Melanie Murguia.

Helen was a graduate of the Elmira Business Institute.  She worked as a secretary for various insurance companies in the Elmira area and she later worked in the payroll department at American LaFrance.  Helen was a devout Catholic and a lifelong member of St. Casimir’s Church.  She was a member of the St. Casimir’s Altar and Rosary Society, Wanda Circle and Golden Circle.

Family and friends are invited to call at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  A prayer service will be held there on Thursday, June 12, 2205, at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira.  Committal prayers and interment will then take place at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
