Billy Cox

Horseheads:  Age 79, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Corning Hospital.  Bill was born and raised in Elmira, a son of Harold S. and Helen Palmer Cox.  He is predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard Cox, Judy Folkner Cox and Ann Brown Cox and James Cox; in-laws, Jean Ann Cox, Thomas and Yvonne Kinney, Jean Kinney Keefe, and William Kinney; son-in-law Chris Ripley; nephew John David Kinney.

Bill is survived by his wife Mary Kinney Cox; daughters and son-in-law, Karyn Ripley with children, Jared, Jordon and Jace; Abbie and Dennis Motsco of Winter Park FL with their daughter Isabella; brother John Cox; in-laws, Jerry Keefe and Hazel Kinney; several nieces and nephews; along with countless good friends.

Bill was a 1964 graduate of the Elmira Free Academy. After high school he went to Barber school working as a Barber for 10 years. He then purchased the Elbow Room creating a place where you could go get a delicious order of wings and know everyone in the place. A place where if you moved away from the area, when you came back home, it was the spot you had to go for a Billyburger, a Masters or just the overall hometown feel. The decor reflected Bill’s love of sports and his favorite teams, Syracuse, Green Bay and The Celtics. He enjoyed the time he was able to caddie on the PGA tour for his long- time friend, Joey Sindelar. Bill owned the Elbow Room until his retirement in 2016. He loved spending time with the family at the cottage on Keuka Lake and winters in Florida. Most important to Bill was his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He will forever be loved and missed.
