Obituary of Constance Apeadu
My twin sister Connie Apeadu has died after a short battle with ovarian cancer. She was 60 years young.
Born in the lush high hills of Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital city; our mother, unable to look after us gave us up for adoption as infants. We were then adopted by a couple from Ghana, West Africa who became our new caring and loving parents. Our father, a dedicated diplomat, and our mother, an accomplished teacher raised us with strict traditional values that has endured a life time.
A friend, a confidant, an inseparable part of my very being, we were two halves of a whole, our bond a constant unwavering presence. Connie possessed a spirit combined with her natural beauty which drew so many people to her. In her teens she was diagnosed with a serious mental illness, but with perseverance and stubbornness she navigated the hardships and obstacles she faced in life. She called Elmira, New York her home for many years, where with the help of Family Services she lived a quiet, faithful, and dignified life.
She was a strong Woman of God, a loyal friend, and a fearless opinionated personality. A long time member of the North Presbyterian Church, (she at one time or another attended all the local churches) she was known to walk around town, making new friends and getting lifts from total strangers.
She is survived by her daughter, Rosemary Kelly of Tampa, Florida, her 98 years old mother Elizabeth Apeadu of Ghana, two sisters MaryAnne Apeadu, New Jersey and Betty Apeadu, Ghana, another brother Kwaku Apeadu, Ghana; a sister-in-law Nikki Roberts-Apeadu, New Jersey; nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Connie’s life will be held at the North Presbyterian Church, 921 College Avenue, Elmira, on May 10th, 2025 at 2:00 p.m.
Though our physical connection is broken, the invisible thread that bound us, as twins, will forever remain. My heart aches with her absence, but what God gives, he also takes; the 60years of laughter, love and unwavering friendship will always be with me. The void she leaves in our lives is immeasurable, a silence where her vibrant voice once echoed.
Rest in peace my dear sweet sister. Until we meet again.....Kofi Apeadu
