
Obituary of Sharon Agan
Sharon Agan passed away on April 1, 2025 surrounded by her loving family one week short of her 86th birthday. A beloved wife and pillar for her husband Bob with whom she was married for 61 years and built a beautiful family together, she was also a devoted mother to 9, grandmother to 23, great grandmother to 11 and a loyal friend who bestowed humility, grace and kindness to all.
Sharon is survived by her son Steve and wife Beth (Middaugh) and grandchildren Katelyn Liska, Jennifer, Dan and Tom; son David and wife Lisa (Halpin) and grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, David and Sarah; daughter Karen Tessier and husband Louis and grandchildren Angela Manning, Zach, Drew, Margaret and Patrick; daughter Kathy Labato and husband David and grandchildren Ashley Marks and Megan Schlesing; son Mike and wife Jodie (Hyland) and grandchildren Rob and John; son Rob and wife Erica (Doland) and grandchildren Kylie and Trevor; daughter Colleen Agan and husband Paul Molholm and grandchildren Eleanor and Alex; son Andrew and wife Jill (Hennessy) and grandchildren Julia and Claire; brother and-sister-in-law Bob and Sue Cunningham; brother-in-law Dan Agan; brother-and-sister-in-law Rich and Carol Agan; brother-and-sister-in-law Joe and Marion Agan; brother-in-law Jerry Agan; and close friends Joe and Diane Schiefen.
She is predeceased by her husband Bob, infant daughter Denise, parents Thomas and Ruth “Bonnie” Cunningham and sister Theresa McLane.
Sharon was born and raised in Elmira, NY. She grew up neighbors to her future husband Bob and went on to graduate from Elmira Free Academy and the Arnot nursing school. Sharon dedicated her life to caring for others, as a devoted mother, nurse and member of community where she worked at the Arnot, was active as a long-time parishioner of the Elmira Catholic Parish and supporter of the Clemens Center, Elmira Soup Kitchen and Notre Dame High School.
Sharon (affectionately known as Mom & Grandma) adored her family and her family adored her. She was both an angel and is a legend as a wife, mother and grandmother. She found her greatest joy when she was at home in Elmira or at Keuka Lake with her family. Her enduring patience and humility was only surpassed by her unconditional love and unwavering support for her husband and kids. Her smile and laughter when around family and friends will forever be cherished and remembered.
Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, April 6, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m., Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Interment, with committal prayers will then take place at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
