Knew Sue in our High School years "54 and "55 and spent lots of time together. A wonderful friend in those times. Lost touch until last year and reconnected at her lecture in Plattsburgh, NY about her family hotel, "The Witherill ", a Plattsburgh landmark. She was still the vivacious girl that I was close to in the 50's. and my wife Lucie had some fun times remembering the past. Shocked that she passed so quickly and we both miss her and will always cherish our recent contacts. All who knew her will be sorry that a one of a kind person is gone.

We are so deeply saddened to hear of Sue’s passing. She was a very important lady in our lives on many levels. Most significantly, Kevin will forever be grateful for her role in establishing a groundskeeper position at Baker that lead to his 35-year career at the Institute. She entrusted Kevin with landscaping her yard at her adorable home on Church Street. On a number of occasions, we dined with her and Charlie at their favorite spot, the Hill Top Inn. We became members of the Friends of the Elmira Civil War Prison Camp Foundation, enjoying her leadership with their events and fundraising. We will always cherish our signed copy of her book “ Welcome to the Witherill”. She was a remarkable woman who didn’t have time to stop. Along with her family and Charlie, we will deeply miss Sue.
With our condolences, Kevin and Michele Draiss, Frederick, MD (formerly of Ithaca)

Our deepest condolences to Sue’s family. I first met Sue at the YWCA for warm water aquatic exercise class. The end of January, I had lunch with Sue. She produces this bag, inside was a sweater that she had attempted to shorten the sleeves. She handed me the bag, saying that I needed to restore the sweater, which I could then keep, but she wanted the needle back. To date I have put the sweater to rights. I’ll pass it to her family if they would like it. She told us she didn’t have time for this diagnosis, as she had too much to do. My energizer bunny friend will be sorely missed.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to Sue's family during this difficult time. My wife and I were truly honored to have known Sue and to call her a friend. She was a determined go-getter and a fighter, always ready to lend a hand whenever we needed help. Whether it was inviting us over for lunch or helping us draft an articulite, yet feisty-worded letter, Sue was always there, unwavering in her support. Her infectious smile and joyful laugh will remain cherished memories. The community was made better because of her. Sue, you will be deeply missed.
