Obituary of Daniel J. Morgan

Dan passed away suddenly after a brief, heroic battle with cancer. 

Dan is the son of James P. Morgan and the late Ann Cavanaugh Morgan. He is survived by his children: Molly Morgan and Kevin (Medina) Morgan; fiancée, Marci Garbett with son Brock; sister, Mary Beth (Marty) Conwell; brother, Patrick (Linda) Morgan; nieces and nephews: Maggie Conwell, Katie (Mike) Muldoon, Morgan (Erica) Conwell, Ellis and Kira Morgan; and several great nieces and nephews whom he adored.  Dan graduated from Southside High School where he made bonds with friends that lasted to the day he died.  Dan’s friendships spanned through everything he was involved with.  He formed a brotherhood of friendships through his colleagues with NYS Corrections. After he retired you might remember him as the bartender at Horigan’s.  He had a charismatic personality and a smile that would light up the room.  He made us laugh often and he always kept a positive attitude.   He often talked about his younger years and to hear his stories of his adventures would make anyone wish they grew up with all that he experienced. He was a great storyteller.  His greatest passions were his children with Janelle.  He was so proud of Molly and Kevin for their educational accomplishments as well as how caring and loving they are. 

He recently proposed to Marci and they were making plans for the future.  She was with him until the end, giving him love and support and his family will be forever grateful.  Dan would not want us to shed too many tears, but rather tell a story or raise a glass in his name.

Dan’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, 11:00 a.m., St. Mary’s Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira.  A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic).  Honoring their brother, members of the Ancient Order of Hibernians will form an Honor Guard at the church.
