Obituary of Austin Bingham Hassett

Austin Bingham Hassett

Age 78 of Keuka Lake, passed away peacefully at F F Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua NY on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.  Austin was born and raised in Elmira NY, son of the late Florence “Nick” and Eleanor Bingham Hassett.  He is also predeceased by his sister Rere Hassett.  Austin is survived by his loving wife Alice E. Murphey; sister Estelle Hassett Wheeler of Portland OR; nieces, Kristin Carufe of Ivoryton CT and Winky Wheeler (J’ Aime Ona Pangia) of Portland OR; brother-in-law Thomas Murphey (Elaine Mellen) of Falls Church VA.  Also surviving are several cousins.  Austin was a 1964 graduate of Notre Dame High School.  He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Hobart William Smith College in Geneva NY and his master’s degree from Syracuse University.  Austin had a long career as a financial analyst/computer programmer for several financial companies such as Security Pacific, Morgan Stanley, Deutsche Bank, retiring from Bank of America while working in New York City.  He was an avid boater and, along with Alice, loved Keuka Lake and the years that they lived on the lake. 

 

As per Austin’s request, there will be no services.  At a later date, he will be buried on the Hassett family lot at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery in Elmira. 

 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Austin’s name to the Wilmot Cancer Institute Development Office, Alumni and Advancement Center, 300 E. River Road, PO Box 278996, Rochester NY 14627.
