Obituary of Daniel Troy

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Dan Troy, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Robert Packer Hospital with family by his side. Born on November 22, 1945, at St. Joseph’s Hospital to the late Francis H. and Marie H. (Shortsleeve) Troy, Dan lived a life full of love and dedication.

Predeceased by his brother Michael Troy, sister Ann Walz, and brothers-in-law Fred Walz and Marty Weisbrod, Dan leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 55 years, Karen (Weisbrod) Troy, and their children Katherine (James) Weaver, Helene (Brett) Ravert, Daniel J. Troy, and John (Heather) Troy. Dan was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Kaitlyn (Caleb) Johnson, Joshua Weaver, Lindsay (Randy) Beach, Lauren Weaver, Sarah Ravert, Nicholas Ravert, Kayla Troy, Isabella, Cadence, Carter, and Juliana Troy. He also adored his great-grandchildren: Harper, Aria, Madeline, Owen, and another great-grandson due in August.

Additionally, Dan is survived by his brothers and in-laws: Francis (Carol) Troy of Elmira, Timothy Troy of Tucson, AZ, J. Fredrick (Lynn) Troy of Elmira, Carol Troy of Elmira, Joseph (Terryl) Troy of Tucson, AZ, Donna (Bobby) Wesneski of Canton, PA, Lisa Sherwood of Waynesboro, PA, Greg Weisbrod of Troy, PA, Eric (Bonnie) Weisbrod of Waynesboro, PA, Jeff (Kathy) Weisbrod, of Troy PA, along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Dan retired from NYSEG after over 30 years of dedicated service in the natural gas industry. He had a passion for sports, especially watching Notre Dame Fighting Irish football, Boston Celtics, and the NY Yankees.

A devoted patriarch, Dan cherished his family above all else. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate, attend, or call his children and grandchildren to express his pride in their accomplishments. His voicemails were legendary. Dan loved when his family would drop by; his door was always open.

Dan was an avid reader with a wealth of knowledge on various subjects. He could read an entire novel in one day and was known for his extensive knowledge on topics ranging from Abraham Lincoln to the Civil War, and especially the 1969 Chevy Camaro, he once owned.

He often shared stories of his youth, including memories of exploring Seely’s Creek, which later became a playground for his children. Dan's fondness for the great outdoors remained constant. Including sharing many moments with the love of his life, Karen. They’d hop in the car, enjoying spontaneous drives through the countryside, taking in the beauty of nature and wildlife. He took solace in traveling the open road with no destination in mind.

Dan will be deeply missed and will live on through the honor, memories, and bond shared by his family.
