Obituary of James P. Weingart

Jim passed away at home in Arlington, VA on March 3, 2024 following a brief battle with cancer. He was the eldest child of his late parents, Francis B. Weingart and Mary Florence (Jensen) Weingart. He was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Mary Elizabeth (Lagonegro) Weingart (m. 1982-2022). Jim is survived by his children, Elissa Marie, Olivia Anne, and Patrick Donovan Weingart, Patrick’s wife, Rebecca, and their three children. He is also survived by Ilona Gasdick Hellie (m. 21 Feb 2024), his brothers, John F, Philip J (Catherine), Edwin B, Thomas W (Monica) Weingart and many nieces and nephews.

 

Jim graduated from Notre Dame High School, University of Michigan, and earned a graduate degree at Catholic University. He was a naval architect and marine engineer. Jim loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time reading about science, history and politics.

 

Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Monday, March 3, 2025, the first anniversary of Jim’s death, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.  A prayer service will follow at 10:30 a.m.  Committal prayers and interment will then take place at St. Peter & Paul’s Cemetery.
