Obituary of Marie Gallo Colucci

Elmira:  Age 92, passed away at home, after a long illness, on Wednesday January 29, 2025.  Marie was born September 30, 1932 in Bound Brook, New Jersey the daughter of the late Frank and Emma Gallo. She is survived by her husband of 68 years Dr. Andrew T. Colucci; children, Mary Grace Guenther, Newport, RI, Joseph M. Colucci, Scottsdale, AZ, Andrew and Jeannette (Booth) Colucci, Elmira, Mark Colucci and Maureen O’Sullivan, Falmouth, MA, David Colucci and Elizabeth Johnson, Bend, OR; and her many grandchildren; Adrien, Damien and Nicholas Guenther, Michael, Caleb, Aidan Colucci and Maria Colucci Yunis; along with 3 great-grandchildren.

 

Marie is predeceased by her son Paul Colucci, grandson Andrew Colucci and sister Irene Comerford.

 

Marie graduated from Catholic University with a nursing degree. She received the university's highest tribute to a woman student "The Marian Award", which is given for distinction in leadership, responsibility, scholarship and extra-curricular activiteis.  While raising her 6 children she attended the School of Human Ecology at Cornell University, from there she worked at Elmira Reformatory developing a jobs training and education program.  In recognition of her work at the reformatory Marie was awarded the 1970 Elmira NAACP Award for her selfless dedication to the cause of human dignity that improved the quality of life for all in the community.  Marie worked for EOP writing grants and working as program director.  She then attended Elmira College where she received a Masters in Remedial Reading and became an integral part of the reading department at Ernie Davis Middle School for the Elmira City School District. In recognition of her work 

 

Marie and Andy have enjoyed a wonderful religious relationship with Mt. Savior Monastery and the monks since the late 60’s.

 

Services will be held at a later date.
