Marie
Endless smiles, openness, open mind and open heart,
truly welcoming in all the best ways,
Marie spoke of her love of hugs, and in the telling
the warmth in her eyes affirmed that she spoke true.
She brought a presence to our Bible Study,
a presence that both calmed and encouraged.
Her compassionate warmth shone through
with her wide Cheshire smile and sparkling eyes to boot.
An encouraging greeter in the best of the Benedictine tradition.
“Let all guests that arrive be received as Christ.” R 53.1
And her devotion to the troubled, the hurting,
the incarcerated were to be reflected in her life’s work.
A gracious hostess always ready to receive the unexpected guest
whether in the Chapel or ‘round her table.
Warmth, love and compassion were her “go to”
and the memory of dear Marie is truly for a blessing.

Dear Andy and family.
I was so sorry to read of Marie's passing in the Star Gazette. When I saw the obituary a flood of wonderful memories came to me ....of "The good old days" when we worked together at EOP. She was so passionate and a true advocate for others and didn't like a lot of nonsense answers. I could always count on her sense of humor to help get us through meetings. May she rest in peace. God bless you all Ruth (Park) Harvey

Marie was a very positive and caring lady. I knew her from various encounters but I got to know her personally when she worked Davis School. She was a dedicated teacher who strived to motivate and encourage her students to do the best that they could. She always had a smile on her face and I will always remember her laugh.
May God bless her and her family.

Marie was a big part of my life for many years. She and my mother , Marilynn Wellington, worked together to create a program called “ New Directions”. They implemented the course and changed lives in the 1970s at the Elmira Correctional Facility. Marie and I road back and forth to Cornell together as we worked on our graduate degrees. She shared her humor and wisdom with me. She and Andy, hosted a wedding reception for my husband, Ed Netski, and myself at their home in 1976. She was an amazing person and an inspiration for so many others.
Ed and I send our condolences to Andy and children.
In Love and Peace -Sara

I knew Marie many, many years ago when she was at EOP. She made an impression that changed my life. During that time I was really struggling and on a very self destructive path. I worked with Marie for maybe 6 months and she treated me with respect and kindness. I couldn’t understand it at the time, but Marie was pretty determined. Even though it took many more years to get my life together, the memory of how she treated me stayed with me. I am a social worker now and try to pay forward what she did for me. Thank you Marie.

With condolence for dear Marie, and Andy especially, along with the large family that means the world to Marie; as well as for her 'wider' families, to include Mount Saviour Monastery oblates and friends. Marie took part in a Friday morning Bible Study group for decades. Her warm friendliness, broad smile & questioning heart will continue as gifts to us all. Her compassion for others, in their suffering (as well as joy) brings to mind the 'grateful heart' that we can all feel, especially when we say her name, now become a blessing. Rest in peace, dear Marie, Our Blessing...
