Walter M. Sozanski
Age 84, of Big Flats, died at his home, with his children by his side, on Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Walt was born August 24, 1925, a son of Joseph and Pauline (Salanski) Sozanski. He is predeceased by his wife Barbara Rundell Sozanski, brother Steven Sozanski, sister Vera Munder. Walt is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Joseph W. Sozanski of Elmira, Daniel E. and Barbara Sozanski of Addison, NY; daughter Terri Sozanski of Erin; grandson Andrew W. Sozanski; brother Myron Sozanski; many nieces and nephews; along with special friends, Francis and Natalie Antuzzi. Walt graduated from EFA in 1943. He then entered the U S Air Force Army Air Corps serving his country proudly during WWII. Walt was an Airplane Armorer Gunner and earned several medals including the American Service, Good Conduct, and WWII Victory medals. He was employed by the Star Gazette for 40 years where he was a Stereotyper and Pressman. Walt was a member of the Golden Glow Fire Department and the Horseheads Elks Club. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, August 20, 2010 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Rural Home Cemetery in Big Flats. Members of the Golden Glow Volunteer Fire Department will gather at the funeral home on Friday evening at 8:45 p.m. to conduct a service for Walt.
Walt's family sends their deepest thanks and appreciation to everyone at Southern Tier Hospice, especially Tanyetta and Suzanne, the staff at Arnot Health Dialysis Center, Drs. Malanoski, Riley, Beck, Rupik, the staff at Arnot Ogden Medical Center and the Patriot G-Ward Riders of New York for the care and support given their father over the past months.
