Obituary of Joseph C. Raub
Joseph C. Raub, 83, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, to the late Edwin and Catherine (Cunningham) Raub, Joe lived a life full of love, dedication, and service to others.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 51 years, Regina A. Miller Raub, and is survived by his children and their families: Suzanne M. and Edward M. Bunnell of Elmira, along with their children, Justin (deceased), Jessica, and Emily, and great-grandchildren, Madison and Elizabeth; Joseph C. and Sheila Raub of Columbia, SC; Kimberly A. Raub of Baldwinsville, NY; and Marianne C. and Thomas J. Devlin of Elmira, with their children, Anna, Maura, and Claire.
Joe retired from Eaton Corporation and later found fulfillment in volunteering for the American Red Cross, providing disaster relief and support across the United States. One of his proudest achievements was volunteering in New York City following the tragic events of 9/11. He also devoted time as a hospice volunteer, offering comfort and care to those in need.
As a passionate sports fan, Joe was an ardent follower of the Syracuse Orange and the New York Giants, and his home was filled with an impressive collection of sports memorabilia. He enjoyed attending basketball and football games with friends, relishing the camaraderie and excitement of live events. In addition to his love for sports, Joe was an avid traveler. He and his wife, Gina, traveled extensively in their RV, exploring every corner of the United States.
Joe was also an avid reader, especially enjoying books on the beach. He spent time honing his skills as a woodworker, crafting birdhouses as a hobby.
He had a deep affection for his dogs, Molly and Maggie, and cherished taking day trips to his hometown to visit old friends. Joe was also a dedicated neighbor, always eager to spend time with those in his local community.
Family was the cornerstone of Joe’s life. He devoted himself tirelessly to the care of his wife, Gina, when she became ill, and he always took great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. Family gatherings were moments Joe treasured, and his love for his family was evident in everything he did.
In accordance with Joe’s wishes, there will be no formal services.
The Raub family extends their heartfelt thanks to the CareFirst Hospice team and the Guthrie Oncology staff on 5B at the Robert Packer Hospital for their compassionate care.
