Obituary of Anna Margaret Capawana

Age 81 of Elmira NY, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024, at the Chemung County Nursing Facility.   Anna was the daughter of the late Thomas Joseph and Margaret Gertrude (Madden) O’Neill.  In addition to her parents, Anna is predeceased by husband Joseph Capawana, daughters, Sheila and Carla Guidice, brothers, Richard and Dennis O’Neill.  Anna is survived by sons, Joseph Capawana of Elmira NY, Daniel Capawana (Michelle) of Elmira, and Thomas Capawana (Bridget) of Fishkill NY; grandchildren, Rebecca, Nicholas (Leo), Clarissa, Clarisse, Cole, Douglas and Parker; brother Kevin O’Neill (Marilyn) of Jersey City NJ; best friend and cousin Robert Lawless (Patricia) of Bloomfield NJ; several nieces and nephews.

 

Anna was born in Orange NJ and raised in Newark NJ into a large Irish family.  Anna started her family of five children in New Jersey before moving to Elmira in 1988.  Anna loved her work as a waitress and enjoyed meeting all types of people during her long career. Anna could talk to people like they knew each other forever, even if they had just met.  Later, Anna worked for Able2 taking care of people with disabilities and made some of her closest friends working there.   Anna loved a good cup of coffee.  

 

There will be no calling hours or funeral service.  Graveside committal prayers and burial will be held at Gates of Heaven Cemetery, in East Hanover NJ on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 12:00 noon.
