Obituary of Walter Joseph Ermold

Walter Joseph Ermold age 84 of Horseheads, NY died peacefully on July 11, 2024.  Walter was the son of the late Walter & Frances (Phillips) Ermold. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Gregory and Donald Ermold, and sister Nancie Trifoso.  Walter is survived by his wife Jacqueline Ermold who he was married to for 60 years; three children, Kara Mechalke (Martin), Kristen Michael (Craig) and James Ermold (Lisa); six grandchildren, Erica, Kayla, Jared, James, Kendra, & Evan; four great-grandchildren, Brayden, Ella, Owen, & Brooks; brother Robert Ermold; along with several nieces and nephews.  

Walter grew up in Elmira Heights and graduated from Thomas Edison High School.  He proudly served in the U S Army Reserves.  Walter was a retired Corrections Officer with the NY State Department of Corrections.  He was an avid skeet marksman at Corning Fish and Game Club and loved to hunt, fish, and watch professional hockey and baseball.  Walter was a long-time communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church, Horseheads.  Walter Joseph Ermold will be remembered as a devoted husband and caring father and friend.  His quick wit, stories, and laughter will be missed by all.

Friends and family are welcome to calling hours at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, NY on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m., celebrating Walter’s life, will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at St. Mary Our Mother Church, 816 W.  Broad Street, Horseheads.
