Obituary of Gail M. Shaw

Gail M. Shaw, 72, of Elmira, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, after a very short battle with cancer, surrounded by her family.

Gail was born in Elmira, NY, daughter of Clarence E. and Margaret R. (Watson) Morse.  Gail retired from the Elmira City School District where she worked for 30+ years at George Washington and Fassett Elementary Schools.

Gail is survived by her husband of 52 years Patrick, her children Amy (Dana) Squires, Brooks (Courtney) Shaw, Joseph (Christen) Shaw, Colleen (Matthew) Wintermute; grandchildren, Joseph Shaw Jr. (Alexis Faucett), Rachel  Squires, Rebecca Squires (Daniel Minnier), Olivia Shaw, Riley Shaw & Lauren Shaw;  great grandchildren, Colton Minnier, Hudson Talada and Paisley Minnier; sister Shiela Vondracek;  brother- and sister-in Law David and Sue Shaw; sister-in-law Nancy Shaw; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Gail was predeceased by her parents Clarence and Margaret Morse, -in-laws, Elton and Helen (Kittle) Shaw Sr., Elton Shaw Jr. & James Vondracek Sr.

Gail enjoyed her yearly casino visits, scratch off tickets, and shopping to buy “prizes” for all.  In addition, she supplied candy to the masses, and enjoyed visiting with family and friends.

Gail was loved and adored by many.  She was adamant that she did not possess the skills of a “Green Thumb” but she spent a lifetime nurturing her family and helping it grow.

Gail always took the opportunity to hug her loved ones and tell them that she loved them.  In lieu of flowers please keep Gail’s tradition alive and always find the opportunity to show others that you love them.

In accordance with Gail’s wishes there will be no services.   A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
