Alfred F. Spallone Elmira: Age 92, formerly of Clearwater FL, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. He was born August 17, 1920, in Elmira, son of the late Samuel and Catherine (Lagonegro) Spallone. Alfred was predeceased by his wife Lillian, to whom he was married for 66 years, brother Joseph Spallone, sister Grace Notartomaso, grandchildren, Joseph Sheesley, James Spallone, Jr., son-in-law James Medovich. He is survived by his daughters, Joyce Trifoso-Medovich, Elmira, Jacquelyn (John) Sheesley, Spring Hill FL; son James (Joan) Spallone, The Villages FL; sister Mary Frances (Richard) Smith, Big Flats; sister-in-law Renate Spallone, Horseheads; 7 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews. Alfred grew up in Elmira. He entered the Army Air Corp in 1942, flying 35 missions during WWII, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal, with four Oak Leaf Clusters. Alfred worked for the United States Postal Service from 1947 - 1976. He was an avid golfer, bowler and occasional baseball player. He and Lillian moved to Clearwater FL in 1988 where they met many new friends and enjoyed a full social life. Alfred was an active member of the American Legion, Elks Club and NARFE. Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father Rick Farrell, at St. Patrick's Church, Elmira on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery Columbarium.
