Elmira: Age 65, passed away peacefully, after a very brave battle with pancreatic cancer, on August 5, 2022. She was surrounded by her son Timothy Olthof and sister Colleen LaDelia. She had been visited that day by her close nephews, niece and brother-in-law. They all brought her great comfort during this time. Susan was born and raised in Elmira NY. She attended Corning Community College where she received an Associates Degree. She then transferred to SUNY College of Technology in Utica NY. There she received a Bachelor's of Professional Studies in Criminal Justice in 1978. After college she began her 40-year career with the Chemung County Sheriff's Department/ Chemung County 911 Communications Center. She started as a dispatcher and retired as a supervisor. Susan was well loved and appreciated by her co-workers and associated departments she worked closely with. Susan was predeceased by her parents Marlene and Stanley Rzengota and her son Scott Olthof. She is survived by her son Timothy Olthof, who was her pride and joy; sister Colleen LaDelia with husband Vincent and children, Greg Harris, Jamie Lincoln, with her daughters, Parker and Evelyn, and Thomas LaDelia; brother Pastor Bruce Rzengota with wife Cheryl and children, Christopher Rzengota (Elizabeth) and son Nathan, and Rebecca Rzengota. Susan was a great organizer. She had a love for reading, puzzles and crafts. In the last few years she found a passion for diamond painting. She gifted many of her completed works to friends and family to remember her by. Susan took many trips to the casinos with friends and always had a great time. One of her favorite games to play was "Let it Ride". Susan had many pets throughout her life. She was a wonderful pet owner and showed that kindness to other animals that touched her life. Bailey and Buddy brought her comfort and joy. Post retirement she developed many close relationships with organizations she was involved in. Her generosity touched many people in our community. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and sharp wit. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at 6:00 p.m. Committal prayers and burial will be held on Monday, August 15, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Chemung County Sheriff's Department Association PO Box 2003 Elmira Heights, NY 14903.
