Obituary of Susan C. Carpenter

Please share a memory of Susan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Susan passed away peacefully on July 5, 2022 after a courageous battle with a brief illness. Susan was a proud graduate and member of Notre Dame High School's class of 1967. She stayed in touch with many of her classmates working on reunions and spear heading breakfast gatherings at Maple Lawn Dairy. Susan graduated from Misericordia in 1971 where she got involved in political activism, something that stayed with her for the rest of her life. Susan was married to Edward Carpenter in 1971, and together they celebrated 50 wonderful years together until Ed's passing this past January. She is predeceased by her parents Charles & Francis Wylie of Elmira, and her brother Charles Wylie Jr. She is survived by her two loving sons, Brian (Kate) Carpenter of Horseheads and Todd (Jessica) of Fishkill, NY and grandchildren Patrick and Connor, both of whom she was extremely proud, as well as Ethan and Mya, whom she loved very much. Susan also leaves behind her sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Joseph Propersi of Lincoln, CA who were able to be by her side during the last month of her life. After retiring as an administrative assistant at Elmira College, Susan focused her energy to volunteering with various local organizations including Catholic Charities and Meals on Wheels. Susan loved being around friends and family. She was always caring for others and was blessed to be able to have that returned to her during her final days by the amazing and caring staff at Bampa's House in Corning. Friends and family may honor Susan's legacy of love, service, and compassion by making donations to Meals on Wheels, 409 William Street, Elmira, NY 14901 or Bampa's House, 170 E. First Street, Corning, NY 14830. Both organizations were close to Susan's heart. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The recitation of the rosary will follow calling hours. Sue's Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, July 15, 2022, St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira at 10:00 a.m. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic).
