Obituary of Greta P. Bozinis

Please share a memory of Greta to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Greta Paige Bozinis, Age 90, formerly of Elmira Heights, died May 23, 2022. She was the daughter of Russell and Zdenka Liskovec Paige. Greta was a graduate of Thomas A. Edison High School. Her passion to write was realized in 1951 when she joined The Advertiser, as women's editor. Two months into her career, she covered the wedding of baseball great Don Zimmer at home plate at Dunn Field! She wrote a daily column "Women's Paige", reviewed local little theater productions at Keeney Theater and community concerts. Her caustic view of a performance by the visiting Cleveland Symphony Orchestra caught the attention of The New Yorker, dubbing her as a "hungry critic". She broke the gender barrier and was the first woman reporter to cover a prestigious national sports event, a soaring meet at Harris Hill. In 1961 her ten year writing career with the Elmira newspaper ended when she became press agent for the James E. Strates Shows, a traveling carnival, co-founded in the 1920's by her father-in-law and Strates. Her 57 years of marriage to George Bozinis was one of kindness, caring and sharing. Continuing these traits are the way to memorialize the lives of Greta and George. Greta will be laid to rest with her husband and daughter at Big Flats Rural Home Cemetery. Services will be private.
