Gerald F. Patno "Jerry" West Elmira: Age 85, passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Jerry was born May 20, 1925 in Florence, VT, the son of the late Andrew and Mabel (Elliott) Patno. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Lois Mengee Patno; sons, Edward A. (Sheryl) Patno of Pine City, Wayne D. Patno with Karen Cook of Pine Valley; daughters, Joanne Brownell of Florida, Muriel Edger of Canada; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ransom and Elaine Converse of Simi Valley, CA; sister-in-law Mary G. Mengee of Newfield, NY; grandchildren, Jeremy (Ali) Patno of Raleigh, NC, Jon (Cara) Patno of Springfield, VA, Andrea (William) Bauman of Horseheads, Dennise (Michael) Zobel of Rochester, Dennis (Stephanie) Webster of Wilmington, NC; great-grandchildren, Andrew Bauman, Landon Patno, Sydney Zobel and Drew Zobel. Also surviving are special nieces and nephews, Carol M. (Douglas) Laney, Margene M. (Gregg) Thomas, Mark (Mary) Converse, Steven (Lori) Converse; along with several great nieces and great nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his brother-in-law Eugene L. Mengee. Jerry was a U. S. Navy veteran serving during WW II. He was retired from the Elmira Correctional Facility. Jerry was a licensed pilot who loved flying. He was an active member of North Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and then a Deacon. Jerry also taught Sunday School at the church and volunteered in the Food Pantry there. He was also a volunteer at the Community Free Kitchen and Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Jerry was a member of the Elmira Heights American Legion Post #154. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held there on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gary Chorpenning conducting the service. A reception will follow at North Presbyterian Church, 921 College Avenue, Elmira. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Donations in Jerry's memory may be directed to North Presbyterian Church Food Pantry, or Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Activities Fund 4D, 600 Roe Avenue, Elmira, NY 14905. Jerry's family wish to express their sincere appreciation to the 6th floor staff at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for their love and care.
