Her husband Stanley T. Augustine predeceased her on June 9, 2012. She is also predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Melvin (Dave) Bates and Jean Davidson. Surviving Elaine are her son Gary B. Augustine of Chemung; daughter Patricia Augustine Kreitzer of Horseheads; grandchildren, Megan Ercole, Ryan Augustine, Jillian (Nicholas) Aho and Nathan Kreitzer; great-grandchildren, Brooke and Heidi Ercole, Eliana, Lukas and Benjamin Aho; sister-in-law Clara Moya of Phoenix AZ; along with many cousins, several nieces and nephews. Elaine started her working career as a part-time employee at a bookstore and then a hobby shop. She then went to work for Henbest & Morrisey Insurance Company, where she was a secretary. Elaine worked for the firm as it made several transitions until finally merging to become part of Elmira Savings Bank, retiring on July 1, 1997. Not one to stay retired, Elaine was a part-time court attendant with the NYS Combined Courts. Bowling, golf and travel trips to the horse races and Atlantic City with Stan were some of her favorite pastimes. Watching softball was a passion and she was an honorary member of the Pitt Bradford softball team. Elaine especially enjoyed her family breakfasts where she was lovingly referred to as the president and CEO of the breakfast club! Elaine was devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every day, for three years, she would travel to the Bath VA to visit her husband. She will be forever loved and missed. Friends are invited to Elaine's services on Monday, August 30, 2021 at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. Masks are requested at the church. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). Committal services will take place at Woodlawn National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Elaine's family extends special thanks to all the caretakers who helped their mom throughout the years, and the entire staff at CCNF, especially the 5th floor staff, who kept her comfortable and safe throughout her stay, especially in light of the covid-19 crisis. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Elaine with a donation to Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1010 Davis Street, Elmira NY 14901.
