Obituary of Patricia C. Werda

age 90, of Elmira, NY, was welcomed into Heaven on Thursday, May 13, 2021 after an extended illness. She was born on April 4, 1931 to Joseph and Cecelia O'Hare of Tyngsborough, MA. She was predeceased by her husband John, siblings, Maureen Bennett, Joseph O'Hare Jr., Michael O'Hare and son-in-law, Douglas Karp. Patricia is survived by her daughters, Mary Karp Iannucci (Joe), Annemarie Robinson (Tim), Jeanne VanBenCoten (Dan Staight), Cathy Hust (Joe) and Julie Stocum (Renny); sister, JoAnne O'Hare; sister-in-law, Sandra O'Hare; grandchildren, Emily Karp, Brianna Iannucci, Jake (Courtney) Wheaton, Brynn Wheaton, Richie, Thomas Jr., John (Megan) VanBenCoten, Tyler, Casey (Rachel) Hust, Caleb and Nick Stocum; great-grandchildren, Eliza and Esther Hust; many nieces and nephews, special family friends and caregivers, Carol Rosell, Karen Harris, Sharri Reep, Joe, Lisa and Rob Kimball and all of the fourth floor staff at Chemung County Nursing Facility. When her children were young, she was a homemaker to five daughters. She later continued her love for children while working as a teacher aide for many years at Pine City School. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church, Southside and member of their folk group. In addition to her church activities, she volunteered for many community groups including, the Elmira Soup Kitchen, LPGA-Corning Classic, Girl Scout leader, literacy tutor and member of the Webb Mills Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and bird watching. There are no prior calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, May 17, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., St. Mary's Church, Elmira, followed by committal prayers and interment at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Covid-19 protocol will be followed at church. A livestream of the Mass will be available through the Facebook page for Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish (https://www.facebook.com/ElmiraCatholic). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Mary's Church, c/o Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish, 1010 Davis St., Elmira NY 14901 or The Alzheimer's Association, 425 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira NY 14904.
