Age 92, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Oak Hill Manor, Ithaca NY. Marge was born in Elmira, NY on November 22, 1928, daughter of George F. and Marcia (Bower) Uhl. She married John D. Walton at Lake Street Presbyterian Church in Elmira on August 14, 1948. She was a lifelong resident of Elmira until 2017 when she moved to Ithaca to be with her daughter, Ann. Marge graduated from Elmira Free Academy in June 1946, attended Elmira College, and earned a LPN degree from BOCES in 1984. She was employed for eight years at the Chemung County Health Department. After retirement, she realized her dream of assisting elderly individuals in their homes in order to maintain independence. Marge was a lifelong member of Lake Street Presbyterian Church, serving as elder, clerk of session, and choir member. She was predeceased by her parents, husband John D. Walton, and infant son Fredrick U. Walton, sister Mary U. (George) Willis, and brother Robert F. (June) Uhl. Marge is survived by her three children: John C. Walton of Madison WI with wife Lindy, and children Timothy Walton (Jamie Sugarman) of Madison, WI, Julia (Kevin) Keuler of Spickard, MO, and Mary Walton of Camarillo, CA; Roger U. Walton of Elmira with wife Barbara, and children Amanda (Robert) Smallcomb, and John D. II (Kate) Walton; and Ann Walton with Denise Knapp of Ithaca, and son Jon (Ashley) Knapp Marsh; extended family Wanda Johnson and Holly Stickler; and ten great-grandchildren: Carter and Rowan Walton; Logan, Elliot, and Oliver Walton; McKenzie and Gabby Smallcomb; and Nadia, Kendra, Suraya Knapp Marsh. Marge found great comfort in her cats. She was a kind, gentle and loyal person, always putting others before herself, never in the forefront, but always present, always our foundation. We will miss her. Family and friends are invited to Marge’s Memorial Service on Thursday, August 5, 2021, 11:00 a.m. at North Presbyterian Church, 921 College Avenue, Elmira NY. Memorial donations may be made to the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA, 2435 NY-352, Elmira, NY 14903.
