Mary Eleanor Heher Flynn
(McCarthy)
Elmira: Age 90, passed away Saturday, April 6, 2013. Eleanor was born in Elmira on July 9, 1922, a daughter of Charles J. and Anna E. (McNevin) McCarthy. She is predeceased by her husbands, Vincent E. Heher and John J. "Jack" Flynn, son John V. Heher, siblings, Frances (James) Flynn, Nan McCarthy, John McCarthy, Justin (Margaret) McCarthy, William (Jean) McCarthy, Sara (Thomas) Delaney, in-laws, Katherine (Mike) Cannon, Virginia (James) Lynch, Marilyn (Lester) Besley, Mary Agnes (Robert) Robinson and Jean Flynn. Eleanor is survived by her daughter Marie "Mimi" Heher, Horseheads; daughter-in-law Susan Heher, Pittsburgh PA; grandsons, Kevin Heher, Pittsburgh PA; Michael Heher, Tahoe City CA; brother-in-law John Heher, Bridgeport CT; along with numerous nieces and nephews. At an early age Eleanor worked at the family grocery store on N. Main Street in Elmira, and at the Erie Railroad. She was a proud alum of Elmira College, Class of 1944. From 1966 - 1978 she was a teacher of business subjects and English at Notre Dame High School. Eleanor was a member of St. Joseph's Auxiliary and the Elmira Country Club. She was a devout Catholic and life-long parishioner of St. Patrick's Church, now Blessed Sacrament Parish. Eleanor was an avid bridge player and enjoyed afternoon card games with her many friends. Eleanor cherished the time spent with family and friends at Keuka Lake.
Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 12, 2013 at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Eleanor with a donation to either, Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira NY 14904, or Blessed Sacrament Parish, 1010 Davis Street, Elmira NY 14901, or a charity of one's choosing.
