Obituary of Catherine Shults

Catherine "Kitty" Shults Age 83, formerly of Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira, passed away Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Elderwood Nursing Facility in Waverly. Kitty was born in Elmira on June 1, 1928, daughter of Raymond J. and Nora Keane Shults. She was predeceased by sister and brother-in-law, Helen T. and John J. Ervin; brother-in-law Richard Fernan; nephew William Fernan; and niece Margaret "Maggie" Ervin. Kitty is survived by her sister Marian Fernan and several loving nieces and nephews with their families. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church. She had worked for American LaFrance until its closing. She then went to work for New York State first at the Elmira Psychiatric Center and then the Elmira Correctional Facility from where she retired. Throughout her life Kitty had a great love for her dogs. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Thursday, October 13, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. followed by procession to St. Mary's Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Committal prayer and interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. In memory of Catherine donations may be made to the Elmira SPCA, Route 352, Elmira NY 14903.
