Richard E. Durgin, Sr. Elmira: Age 78 passed away Thursday, October 27, 2011 at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Dick was born in Peabody MA on July 31, 1933, a son of the late Harry T. and Marie (Fortier) Durgin. In addition to his parents Dick is predeceased by his son Richard E. Durgin, Jr. He is survived by his loving wife Rita Skorniak Durgin; their children and families; Debra M. Durgin of Elmira with Beth McElligott; Robert M. and Kathy McGinnis of Elmira with children, Brittany, Robert III and Michael; Joseph M. McGinnis of Elmira; Douglas M. and Christine McGinnis of Horseheads with children, Megan and Jonathon; Denise M. and Joseph Mullaney of Elmira with their children, Sean Rafferty and Sarah Mullaney; Michelle M. and Thomas Buchanan of Erin with children, Amanda, C.J. and Mya; children of Richard E. Durgin, Jr., Brandi (Mike), Richard III and Brandon. Also surviving are great grandson Blake; brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Peg Durgin of Napa CA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Gloria and John Furno of Rochester; along with several nieces and nephews. Dick was a U S Air Force veteran retiring in 1973 with 22 years of service. Upon his retirement from the military, Dick purchased O'Connor Express Inc./Rapid Delivery Service and with the help of Rita operated the company for 30 years. Dick was a caring, honest and loving person who will be greatly missed. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation. The Durgin family wants to offer special thanks to the VA, the Arnot Ogden Medical Center and to all the doctors and nurses who took excellent care of Dick.
