George David Weaver "Dave" Died Monday, November 14, 2011. Born January 2, 1929 in Elmira, NY. He was the son of the late Frederick J. and Anna (MacDermott) Weaver of Elmira, NY. He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Mary Jane (Lutz) Weaver, his children: Linda M. Riner of Elmira, NY; David G. and Janette Wakefield Weaver of Roanoke, VA; Susan J. and Stephen Mower of Elmira, NY; Ricky G. and Lori (Garrison) Weaver of Pine City, NY; and Patrick G. and Cynthia (Agan) Weaver of Charlotte, NC; his grandchildren: Katrina Church; David, Mary-Elizabeth, and Anne Catherine Weaver; Wendy and Scott Seymour, Ricky, Jr., Sean-David and Michael-Anthony Weaver; and Nicolas, Isabel, and Gabriella Weaver; his great grandchildren: Brooklyn, Cameron, Carsyn, and Jordan Nichols; and Alexis, Julia, Scott, Sophia and Joseph Seymour; his brother, Francis Michael Weaver of Elmira, NY, his sister-in-law, Bernice Augustine Weaver of Endicott, NY; family member, Mary Humpton of Horseheads, NY ; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Dave was predeceased by his siblings: John Weaver, Edward Joseph and Gracia Weaver, Margaret R. Weaver, William and Betty Weaver, A. Anthony Weaver, Anna Mary Harrison; and his parents-in-law, Arthur F. and Julia M. (Waters) Lutz. Dave grew up in Elmira and attended local schools. He was always an exceptional athlete, excelling in baseball, football, tennis, squash, and golf. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1945 and served in the South Pacific Fleet Marine Force in Guam before being transferred to Marine Headquarters in Washington, D.C. where he taught at the Marine Corps Schools. Following his honorable discharge from the Marines in 1948, Dave worked for John Cunningham Construction and completed an internship in marketing and sales with American La France Corporation. In 1953, he joined National Homes Corporation as an assistant production manager where he was responsible for overseeing the manufacturing, shipping and erecting of thousands of homes throughout the northeastern United States. In 1961, Dave became sales manager for Monge Homes, a National Homes Corporation dealer, and developer of Greenbrier housing development in Horseheads, NY. Dave also formed Weaver Contracting which constructed several homes throughout the Elmira area. A life-long student, Dave attended and completed formal courses of study at Elmira College, Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations, University of Pennsylvania The Wharton School, and Empire State College. Dave devoted close to fifty years of his life to meeting the needs of the construction industry throughout south central New York. His forty-seven year career in labor relations began in 1964 when he was named Executive Vice President of Chemung Valley Builders Association. In that capacity, he managed and formulated the needs of the construction industry in the Elmira/Corning area and served on behalf of the member contractors as the sole labor negotiator with construction industry unions. Through his efforts, Chemung Valley Builders Association expanded its area of service and grew into the Construction Industry Exchange of South Central New York, where Dave remained as executive vice president until its closure on December 31, 2010. There, Dave was responsible for all aspects of the construction industry's labor relations including the negotiation and drafting of labor contracts, labor dispute resolutions, apprentice training programs and employee health benefits and pension funds. He frequently advised and assisted in the drafting of legislation, regulations and executive orders pertaining to the construction industry labor relations and employee benefits. Until shortly before his death, Dave served as a consultant with the Construction Trades Employers of South Central New York on matters relating to management, administrative services, employee benefits and labor relations. Dave volunteered in many civic and service organizations. He was a youth baseball coach, past president of Broadway School PTA, past president of the Southport-Pine City Jaycees, and founding board member of Glove House. He was a past board member of the Regional Housing Authority, the Home for the Aged, the Chemung County Planning Board and the Civil Service Commission. Dave was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Msgr. John J. Lee Division. Above all of his many talents and accomplishments, Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend whose care, concern, generosity and humor knew no bounds. Calling Hours will be Friday, November 18, 2011 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., St. Mary's Catholic Church, Southside. Interment, with committal prayers and military honors, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Dave with a donation to Glove House, 220 Franklin Street, Elmira NY 14904.
