Obituary of Roy Leslie Cleveland

Roy L. Cleveland Elmira: Age 61, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at the Syracuse V.A. Roy was born April 18, 1950 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, a son of Violet Malkin and the late Arthur Malkin. He was adopted by Ernest and Evelyn (Hager) Cleveland who also predecease him. Roy is survived by his wife Mary "Meg" Backer Cleveland of Elmira; children, Cara, R.J. (Lynne), and Damien (Kristen), with their children; brothers, Terry Cleveland and Gene (Elaine) Cleveland; several brothers and sisters in Canada; father-in-law Harry Backer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Harry and Diane Backer, John Backer, Dennis and Marcie Backer, Danny Backer; along with several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are many good friends at Gush's Thirsty Bear and Rounding Third. Roy was a graduate of Southside High School. A U S Marine Corp veteran, he served two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Sunday, January 22, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial for Roy will be Monday, January 23, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary Our Mother Church, Horseheads. Interment, with military honors, will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery.
