Daniel F. Dimon, Sr.
Elmira: Age 72, passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012, with his family by his side at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio. Dan was born June 30, 1939, the son of the late Kenneth H. and Madeline (O'Leary) Dimon. He is also predeceased by his brother Dr. Kenneth H. Dimon, Jr. Dan is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Lenore (Peters) Dimon; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel F. and Susan Dimon, of Elmira, with their children, Sydney, Alexandra and Daniel III; Michael A. and Dawn Dimon of Horseheads, with their children, Joshua, Jacob, and Hannah; and cousin Harriet A. Rathbone of Elmira. Dan was a 1958 graduate of Notre Dame High School, and graduated from Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY in 1965. He served in the Army Reserves for 7 years. Dan started working at the family business, Dimon & Bacorn, Inc., at the age of 14. He was the third generation Dimon to work in the family business that was started in Elmira in 1900. Dan was President of the company from 1980 - 2010, at which time he became the CEO. Under his tenure, Dan expanded the company to the Binghamton and Syracuse areas. Active in the community Dan was head of transportaion for the LPGA - Corning Classic for 10 years, was past president of the Elmira-Corning Traffic Club, was a member of the NYS Movers Association, where he also served on the board, and was the Chemung County representative for the Catskill Region of NYS OTB. An avid golfer Dan was a member of the Corning Country Club for 30 years, a member of the Elmira Country Club and the Bellfair Plantation in Hilton Head, SC. He was also a member of Fur, Fin, and Feather, and a communicant of Christ the Redeemer Parish, attending Our Lady of Lourdes Church. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and good friend, Dan will be missed by many.
Friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Sts., on Sunday, March 18, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held Monday, March 19, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Dan with a donation to either Meals on Wheels, 113 Fox Street, Elmira NY 14901, or Notre Dame High School, 1400 Maple Avenue, Elmira NY 14904.
