Obituary of Margaret O’Connor

Margaret A. O'Connor Elmira: Age 101, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2012 At St. Joseph's Hospital SNF. Margaret was born July 13, 1910 the daughter of James W. and Mary (Conroy) O'Connor. She is predeceased by her brother James O'Connor and sister Katherine O'Connor. Margaret is survived by her nieces, Mary Jo (Ronald) Morse of Clay, NY, Toni Ann (Jerry) Lyon of Falconer, NJ, and Jamie Messerole of Ashburn, VA; several great nieces and great-nephews; along with good friends, Eileen M. Collins, of Vienna, VA, Jill Wallace and Elaine Harrington of Elmira. Margaret was a graduate of Elmira College, continuing her education at Syracuse University where she obtained her Master's Degree. A long time teacher with the Elmira City School District she taught Biology for many years at Elmira Free Academy. After retiring Margaret spent many years as a volunteer at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a long time communicant of St. Mary's Church, Elmira. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Margaret on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. A special thank you to Dr. Corbalan and the 5th floor staff of St. Joseph's Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility for the wonderful care Margaret received while there.
