Shirley B. Augustine
Elmira: Age 84, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Shirley was born in Elmira on October 1, 1927, daughter of Frank and Eunice (Harding) Bowman. She was predeceased by her husband Louis A. Augustine, brother Robert Bowman, sister and brother-in-law Ellen and Jack Dublin. Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Stanley J. and Judith H. Augustine of Horseheads; granddaughters Ashley and Amy Augustine; great granddaughter Rylynn Augustine; sister and brother-in-law Judith and Max Collins of Irvine CA; sister-in-law Wilma Bowman of Aurora CO; several nieces, nephews and in-laws. Shirley's greatest joy was time spent with family. She grew up spending summers on Keuka Lake. It was a love she passed on to her husband Lou early in their marriage. They purchased a cottage on the lake which they kept for nearly 40 years. It was the gathering place for family reunions and other family events. In turn, Lou passed on to Shirley a love for the card game euchre. She became an avid player. In later years Shirley became a volunteer with the American Red Cross. Shirley loved oil painting and knitting, and was a longtime communicant of St. Casimir's Church. She retired after a successful career with Marine Midland Bank.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Casimir's Church on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Woodlawn National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in Shirley's memory may be directed to the Arnot Ogden Dialysis Unit, 600 Roe Ave., Elmira NY 14905 or a charity of one's choice.
