Obituary of William Joseph Murphy

William Joseph Murphy Elmira: Age 95, passed away on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility. Bill was born in Elmira, son of William Edward and Lulu (Boyce) Murphy. He married Dorothy McCrone in 1944, they were married for 44 years before she died on May 2, 1988. He is survived by daughters, Natalie Murphy of Elmira, and Janet Alicia Murphy of Hilton Head Island SC and Hammondsport NY; grandchildren, S. Asheley (Eugene) Mone of Danbury CT, Alexia Stevens (Marc) Bartholdi of Hopewell Junction NY, and Stuart (Kathryn) Stevens of Brooktondale NY; great grandchildren Katherine, Gavin, Meryn, Liam, Claire, William and Keenan. Bill was very athletic and was an outstanding quarterback at Elmira High School during the 1930's. He retired from General Electric with 33 years of service. Bill had the distinction of being the longest serving member of the NYS Civil Service Commission. Family and friends are invited to attend Bill's Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery.
