Obituary of Donald L. Guinn

Donald L. Guinn "Rebel" Elmira: Age 79, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 7, 2012. Rebel was born in Benham KY on May 24, 1933, son of the late Loyd and Lucille (McGlamery) Guinn. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years, Shirley Davis Guinn on May 27, 2008. Rebel was also predeceased by his sister Barbara "Susie" Slone. He is survived by his children, Donna Guinn of Owego NY, L. Philip Guinn with Jennifer Maycumber of Elmira, Cindy Sheehan with husband Kevin of Rochester NY, Wendy Guinn of Rochester NY; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Jodie Guinn of Elmira; sister-in-law Lorraine Galasso of Florida; along with extended family members including 4 nephews in Tennessee. Rebel was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He was a coal miner in Kentucky before enlisting in the Air Force. After his military service he was employed by Canteen Vending Service for a number of years before working for the U.S. Postal Service from where he retired. Rebel was an "honorary" lifetime member of the White Eagles Club. In earlier years he was an avid golfer and bowler. He was also an excellent pool player and was known to hustle a few people over the years. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 6:15 p.m. Donations in Rebel's memory may be directed to Southern Tier Hospice, 11751 East Corning Rd., Corning NY 14830.
