Anthony F. Rocchi, Sr. "Tony" Elmira: Age 75, passed away, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Tony was born in Elmira on July 7, 1937, son of the late Nazzareno and Josephine (Manocchio) Rocchi. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years Angela (Palladino) Rocchi; children, Anthony F., Jr. and Kathleen Rocchi of Elmira, Joann M. and John Siedman of Elmira, Peter M. and Mary Rocchi of Pine City, Carolyn Cleary of Elmira, and Joseph Rocchi with Sue Cleary of Elmira; grandchildren, Mathew and Jason Rocchi, John and Joel Siedman, Christopher Rocchi, Cara, Michael and Nazzareno Cleary, Cortney, Morgan and Alex Rocchi; great granddaughter Jaiden Savarese; sister and brother-in-law Theresa A. and John Tallis Jr. of Horseheads; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Joann and Robert Gates of Horseheads, Nancy Allyn of Gang Mills and Carol Palladino of Elmira; best friend Bill Petta of Wellsburg. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Tony was an avid fan of cars. He was known to change cars at a moment's notice. For many years during the late 60's and through the 70's Tony ran Northside Service on the corner of W. Washington Ave. and Magee Street. After the closing of Northside Service, Tony went to work as a carpenter at Kennedy Valve for over 20 years before retiring. Tony, along with his wife Angie, were the owners of Angie's Inn in Pine City from 2001 to 2007. He had a love for music and was a drummer who played in many local bands. Tony served with the U.S. Navy Reserve for 18 years. While with the Navy he served as the Italian interpreter for the "Amerigo Vespucci", the Italian Tall Ship, during the rededication of the Statue of Liberty in 1986. Tony was a devout Catholic. He was a long time active communicant of Ss. Peter and Paul Church. At one time he was the lay director of the Rochester Diocese Cursillo movement. With this ministry Tony would visit New York State prisons in Auburn and Groveland. In lieu of flowers donations in Tony's memory may be directed to the Chemung County S.P.C.A., 2435 Route 352, Elmira NY 14903 or the American Red Cross, 911 Stowell St., Elmira NY 14901. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, corner of W. Water and Walnut Streets, on Saturday, July 14, 2012 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 4:15 p.m. Military honors will be accorded to Tony at the end of the funeral service.
