Obituary of Robert L. Douglas

Elmira: Age 79, passed away in Bath NY on Sunday, September 9, 2018. Bob was born in Elmira, son of the late Howard and Stella (Malanowski) Douglas. He is also predeceased by sisters, Delores O'Leary and Betty Strange, along with his brother Richard Douglas. Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years Sally (Von Hendy) Douglas; son Robert F. Douglas and wife Kristin of Lakeport NY and their daughters, Madalyn and Molly; daughter Christine E. Douglas with husband Sean Murphy of Melrose MA and their children, Aidan, Bodie and Sadie; sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy Jordan of Ithaca NY, Jean and John Molnar of Horseheads; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Carole Douglas of Elmira, Rosemarie Bodenheimer of Boston MA, Lorraine Von Hendy of Los Osos CA, Frank and Charlotte Von Hendy of Blossburg PA; several nieces and nephews. As a teenager, and into his early 20's, Bob worked summers at Eldridge Park. He had worked in sales with Frito Lay for 25 years. Wanting to stay busy after retirement Bob went to work for the Elmira City School District for several years. Bob was a 50 year active communicant of St. Mary's Church. He loved boating on Seneca Lake and was a member of the Watkins Glen Yacht Club. Bob enjoyed driving and traveling with Sally in their RV, which included trips to Florida and two trips across the U.S. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and Buffalo Bills. Most importantly Bob was devoted to his wife, children and grandchildren. A big part of his life was attending the activities of his children and grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Papa Bob". Family and friends are invited to Bob's Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, on Saturday, September 22, 2018, 10:00 a.m. There will be no prior calling hours.
