Obituary of Bernard Thomas McLaughlin

Elmira: Age 81, passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by the love of his family, on Saturday, September 1, 2018. Bud was born in Corning a son of Arthur D. and Margaret (Smith) McLaughlin. He is predeceased by his brothers and sister-in-law, Edward and Janice McLaughlin, Donald McLaughlin, and sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Robert Anderson. Bud is survived by his devoted and much loved wife of 61 years Patricia Collins McLaughlin; children and their spouses, Deborah A. and Edmund Shelden of West Palm Beach FL, Colleen M. McLaughlin of Charlotte NC, Kathleen A. and Michael Siglin of Elmira, Bernard T. "Tom" and Sharon McLaughlin of Charlotte NC, Patrick M. and Kelli McLaughlin of Elmira, Bernadette M. McLaughlin of Elmira, with Christopher Drake; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Mable McLaughlin of Elmira; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bud was a 1954 graduate of Southside High School. He was a US Army veteran, enlisting in the military right after high school. Bud worked as a lineman for New York Telephone Co. for 30 years. An avid outdoorsman he loved to hunt and fish. Bud was a jack of all trades, helping his children with projects at their homes. He was very meticulous with every project did. Bud also enjoyed making furniture. Quite the prankster, Bud loved to play pranks on family members. He was a member of the John J. Lee Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Bud was a hard working guy, who loved his family, he will be forever loved and missed. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Sunday, September 9, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Bud's Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira, on Monday, September 10, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. Those wishing may remember Bud with a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis TN 38105. Officers and members of the A.O.H. will meet at the funeral home at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday to conduct a service for our brother, Bud. Signed, Mike Duffy, president
