Obituary of Harolyn W. Matteson
HAROLYN GIORDONO MATTESON AND MATTHEW MATTESON
Tragically died on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. Both were born and raised in Elmira and were graduates of EFA. Matt, age 43, in 1993 and Harolyn, age 42, in 1994. Harolyn earned her undergraduate degree from Nazareth College, Rochester and earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Buffalo. Prior to settling in Elmira Harolyn and Matt lived in North Carolina where she worked in social services and Matt worked for Powerhouse Electric. They were married in Willow Spring NC in 2011. Upon their return to Elmira, Matt served as an apprentice with IBEW, eventually becoming a member of IBEW Local #139. He owned M&H Electric, specializing in both commercial and residential work. Harolyn previously worked for Family Services. When their son Lucas was born she became a stay at home mom, also doing child care for others. Currently, Harolyn was working evenings and weekends at Southern Tier Counseling where she was a therapist. Matt and Harolyn both enjoyed riding motorcycles, kayaking and snow skiing. They also both had a love for music especially Phish and the Chris Robinson Band. Last year they met Chris Robinson and he invited them to travel with the band to their next concert, which was in Ohio! They leave behind their children, Teagan James and Lucas Matthew Matteson, and Matt’s daughter Mary Ashley Matteson. Their children were their pride and joy. They are also survived by Harolyn’s family...mother Harolyn Wilcox Giordano of Elmira; aunt and uncle Virginia and Mark Griswold of Elmira...Matt’s family…parents, Michael J. and Therese Hogan Matteson; brother and sister-in-law Brian M. and Valerie Matteson of York PA with their daughter Olivia Rose; sister and brother-in-law Catherine E. and Douglas Hammons of Northville NY with their children, Logan Douglas and Ella Catherine; grandfather Jerome F. Hogan of Elmira; aunts and uncles, Colleen Hogan of Horseheads, Daniel and Lory Hogan of East Nassau NY, Catherine and Stanley Burczynski of Elmira, Patrick and Rose Hogan of White Plains NY, Kevin Hogan of Elmira, and William Matteson of Elmira. Also surviving are numerous cousins. Harolyn was predeceased by her father James C. Giordano and brother James L. Giordano. The Giordano and Matteson families will receive friends at McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday July 16, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at 10:15 a.m., followed by an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, Elmira.
