Obituary of George K. Crowe
Age 72, passed away, as the result of an accident, on Wednesday, June 27, 2018. George was born in Williamsport PA a son of the late Edward H. and Alice (Nixon) Crowe. In addition to his parents he is predeceased by brothers, James, Gerald and Lawrence Crowe, and nephew Edward Van Horn. George is survived by his sister and brother-in-law Helen and William “Chip” Van Horn of Pine City; niece Kathryn (Shawn) Putnam of Horseheads; nephew James (Ellen) Van Horn of Rifle CO; great-nephews, Brenden and Jacob; along with several cousins. George was a US Navy veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was a retired Correctional Officer, having worked at the Elmira Correctional Facility. George retired early to take care of his mother. Together they loved to travel. He loved horses, owning several that raced at Finger Lakes Race Track in Canandaigua. George could often be found at OTB in Elmira. His favorite saying was “Are we going fishin?”. George was a kind and generous person who will be forever missed. A graveside service, with military honors and New York State Corrections honors, will be held at Woodlawn National Cemetery on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Those wishing may remember George with a donation to The Salvation Army, 414 Lake Street, Elmira NY 14901.
