Obituary of Daniel Thomas Claire

Age 79 passed away peacefully in Sarasota FL on Thursday, April 26, 2018. Danny was born in Elmira, son of the late Daniel and Margaret West Claire. In addition to his parents Danny was predeceased by his sister Mary Elizabeth Griswold. Danny is survived by his sons, Scott Claire of Houston TX and Sean Claire of Sarasota FL; daughter and son-in-law Shannon and John Hickok with their son Reece and daughter Riley all of Warner Robins GA; sisters and brothers-in-law, Peggy Mathers, Micki and Bill Seymour, Joan and Alex Granger all of Elmira, Kathy and Mike Della Sala of Naples FL; brother-in-law Durland Griswold; aunt Virginia West Ryan of Binghamton NY; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Danny went to St. Patrick's Grammar School, attended Mass at St. Patrick's Church, was and altar server and sang in the church choir. On Sunday mornings Danny would wheel his home made cart out to the front of St. Patrick's to sell the Sunday morning newspaper. Danny was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy and attended the University of Maryland. In 1972 Danny moved to Florida where he worked in the insurance business for some time, and for many years he owned Royal Carriage Taxi Service in Venice. Danny was proud of his Irish heritage and was a Tampa Bay Rays fan. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water St., Elmira, on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held there on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Place, Elmira, at 10:00 a.m. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.
