Virginia A. Nichols

Age 77, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023, at Corning Hospital surrounded by her daughters. Virginia was born in Elmira, daughter of Frederick Gates and Leona McMillen. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband Walter Nichols, brother Charles "Chuck" McMillen and grandson Edward Moore. Virginia is survived by her family, Cindy (Sean) Coggins, Tina Walborn, Mary (Matt) Keefe all of Elmira, Laura (Dr. Thomas) Mitchell of Florida; grandchildren, Jeremy Moore (Samantha DeRico), Tara Walborn (fiancé Bert Singerhoff), Cameron and Sheldon Walborn, Tyler and Brady Keefe, Erika Huffman (Noah Bowdy), Paige Huffman, Alexis Huffman (Vince Amato) and Justine Huffman; nephews, Phillip Fletcher and Tim McMillen; several great grandchildren.

Virginia was devoted to her family and happiest when surrounded by all of them. She was a truly exceptional woman who cared for others and volunteered her time selflessly. She was a devoted member of New Beginnings United Methodist Church. Virginia also loved knitting and crocheting, often donating her knitted hats and blankets to the Arnot Ogden Neonatal Unit.

Services for Virginia will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at New Beginnings United Methodist Church, 300 E Miller Street, Elmira. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Chemung Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Virginia requests donations be made to your local Vietnam Veterans organization.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the amazing nurse team at the Corning Guthrie. The care and compassion you showed our mom made her feel like royalty, and you provided immense comfort to our family through a very dark time.
