Known to many as Mary Lou, passed away at the Chemung County Nursing Facility on November 15, 2022, at 104 years of age. Mary was born on December 29, 1917, a daughter of Domenico and Catherine (Lamantea) Lucci. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Marty and Rhonda Whitford and granddaughter Tori Whitford; sisters, Jennie Tomassi and Lena Scholz; sister-in-law Alyce Lucci; along with many nieces, nephews; and especially all of the Mustico cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by husband James Whitford; sister and brothers-in-law, Saunte (Ronald) Earl, Dominick Tomassi, Harry Scholz; brothers and sisters-in-law Philip Lucci, Joseph Lucci, Angelo (Catherine) Lucci, Dominic (Salla) Lucci; nieces, Barbara (Lucci) Sandlak, Cynthia Lucci. Mary worked at a variety of places throughout her life, ending her working career at Mustico's Restaurant where she was known for her peanut butter pie, cream puffs and other delicious desserts. Mary was an excellent cook and baker and if you left her home hungry, it was your own fault. She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church, now The Most Holy Name of Jesus Parish. Mary was a member of the Sacred Heart Ladies, a volunteer at the church festival and the IAV Ladies Auxiliary. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Monday, November 28, 2022 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mary on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 604 Park Avenue, Elmira. Interment, with committal prayers, will follow at St. Peter & Paul's Cemetery. Mary's family would like to thank the staff of CCNF, primarily the 3rd floor staff, for the excellent care they provided to Mary for over 10 years. Flowers will be provided by Mary's family.
