Age 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at the Bath VA Medical Center. Jim was born and raised in Syracuse NY. He was predeceased by his parents James and Doris Nichols McCormick; wife Shirley McCormick; sister Kate Vusick; great granddaughters, Mary and Justina McCormick. Jim is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Chris Stowell of Horseheads, James II and Ila McCormick of Painted Post, John and Karen McCormick of Horseheads; daughter Margaret M. Taylor of Horseheads with Mike Hall; sisters, Patricia Sheridan of Syracuse and Maureen Cowan of North Carolina; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; best friend and Marine brother, Jack Chamberlain with wife Rita of Port Saint Lucie FL; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Jim was a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. Jim worked as a union insulator for many years. His job took him all over the country to nuclear power plants, schools and a variety of other places. Jim was an avid bingo player. He loved to fish and golf. He was always active and was physically fit into his 80's. Family and friends are invited to McInerny Funeral Home, 502 W. Water Street, Elmira, on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m., with military honors accorded after the service. Burial will take place at the Onondaga County Veteran's Cemetery in Syracuse. Those wishing may remember Jim with a donation to the Bath VA Patient Fund, 76 Veterans Avenue, Bath NY 14810 or the American Cancer Society, 13 Beech Street, Johnson City NY 13790. The McCormick family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of the Bath VA Medical Center for the wonderful care they provided to Jim over the last year. "Semper Fi."
