Obituary of Teresa V. Treu

Age 89, of Elmira, NY, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, after an extended illness. Teresa was born in 1928 in Elmira, NY to the late Frank Vazzana and Christy Ippolito Vazzana. She graduated from Elmira Free Academy and earned a nursing diploma from St. Joseph's Hospital. She worked as a nurse for several years prior to joining her husband Harold in the family office supply business. Upon her retirement, she served as a volunteer for the Pastoral Care Office at St. Joseph's Hospital. Teresa enjoyed playing bridge with friends, and attending summer theatrical and opera productions at various venues in upstate NY and Canada with her husband. She and her husband also enjoyed traveling together following their retirement. Teresa is survived by her sister Marguerite Richards; daughter Judy Treu of Shelton CT; son Perry Treu (fiancée Jennifer Berg) of Elmira NY; former daughter-in-law Georgette Treu of Elmira, NY; son-in-law Douglas Urckfitz of Penfield NY; grandchildren Melissa (Christian) Nelson, Andrew Urckfitz, Cierra Treu, Joshua Treu, Emily Urckfitz, and Logan Townsend; great-grandchildren Cooper and Nora Nelson; in-laws Richard and Ruth Treu, and Sally Vazzana; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Harold L. Treu, Jr., daughter Virginia Urckfitz, brothers (Frank, Joseph, Anthony, and Raymond Vazzana), and sisters (Ann Palmieri, Helen Krystof, and Antoinette Krasik) A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Casimir's Church on Friday, February 10 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Scott Kubinski officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. McInerny Funeral Home will be handling the funeral arrangements.The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Seniors Helping Seniors (especially Penny and Dee) who helped her to extend her stay at home in her later years, and also to the caring and supportive staff of Woodbrook Assisted Living Residence.
