Pine City: Age 87, passed away unexpectedly, on Friday, October 14, 2016 at home. Josephine was born in Detroit MI, daughter of Concetto and Antonina Vecchio. She was predeceased by her husband Charles on July 19, 2014. Josephine is survived by her sister Angela Dambroso of Dewitt NY; spiritual son Father Matthew Newcomb of Port Jarvis NY; extended family, Justin Sherman of the U S Coast Guard, Honolulu HI, Reverend Lubomir Zebak, with his wife Natayla and their two sons, and "grandson" James Walsh of Baldwinsville NY. Josephine is also survived by a host of good neighbors and special friends. Josephine had a 35 year career working for New York Telephone/Verizon first in Syracuse and later in Elmira from where she retired. She was a longtime volunteer at the Clemens Center and a member of the Red Hat Society. A devout Catholic, Josephine was a communicant of St. Cecilia's Church and upon its closing became a member of St. Mary's Church in Elmira. Services will take place at St. Mary's Church, 224 Franklin Street, Elmira 14904 on Saturday, October 22, 2016. There will be one hour of calling from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal prayers and interment will then take place at St. Peter and Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those wishing may remember Josephine with a donation to St. Mary's Church.
